Why I Teach
AchieveKids seems like a second home to me. The students bring a smile to my face and are a constant reminder that relationships are really the most important part of one’s life and at the end of the day I would like to think that what we do matters.
Parents see the different teaching strategies they have not seen in other programs. When they notice the positivity of the staff and consistency of the class this can allow them to take a deep breath knowing their child will be safe here.
I teach because to me, it’s a form of art. My classroom is like a giant ball of clay and every time I teach, I’m creating something from nothing. When my students are learning, I feel like I’m molding and shaping what will soon turn into masterpieces. If something doesn’t work, I go back and try again.
I teach because I want students and staff to better understand themselves, others, and the world we live in. I teach because I want to help others become the best version of themselves.
I teach because I want my students to love school and to enjoy learning just as much as I do. Creating that connection with one or all our students can make a difference in their lives. I teach because there is no exact science behind how to teach subjects in a specific strategy. Teaching is all about being creative and working collaboratively with others who hold a different skill set to make learning more engaging.
I enjoy preparing my students for their future. Their happiness means a lot to me. I want to ensure I can prepare them for the adult world when they leave my classroom.
I teach because I feel like I’m spending my work time doing something that matters to people’s real lives.
I teach because I enjoy giving and loving my students. My students give me hope to help and support them when they need me.
I never thought I would work at place for 25 years. AchieveKids is a place where strangers become co-workers, co-workers become friends and some even become like family. The best part of my job is when a student finally gets a concept that they have been struggling with, when that light bulb clicks and they get it, it makes my day and makes me want to continue.
I teach because I believe education informs and empowers individuals to make decisions that will have a positive impact for themselves, their community, and the world.
The work I do at AchieveKids is my passion but what has made it possible for me to stay all these years, and impossible to leave, is the caring, support and laughs I share with my co-workers.
I teach because I want students with disabilities to believe in themselves, and also have the tools they need to receive a good education.
